The oldest surviving Suzanis are from the late 18th and early 19th centuries usually they have a cotton (sometimes silk) fabric base, which is embroidered in silk or cotton thread, and often made in two or more pieces that are then stitched together.

The popular design motifs for Suzanis include sun and moon disks, flowers (especially tulips, carnations, and irises), leaves and vines, fruits (especially pomegranates), and occasional fish and birds.
History behind Suzani

Our pieces were produced by women in the middle east…
Where women embroider as part of their culture and tradition.
Inspired by the village they live in, they use striking colors picturing flowers, animals and the scenery of their daily life.
Their native embroideries showcase their extraordinary talent for design and use of colors.
